Part 12: Getting the Party Going with Live Entertainment

There is no better way to really get your family up and moving than with life entertainment. Or, you can use different forms of live entertainment to hold the attention of the youngsters or put a smile on the faces of the older generation.

The most commonly thought of form of life entertainment would be to hire a band. Be careful when hiring a band, however, as you don’t want your Uncle Eddie with his one man banjo show to become offended if you don’t ask him to play.

Hiring a band to play at your family reunion is a great way to get everyone moving and dancing and having a great time. Make sure you listen to the band perform before hiring them, however, or you might be sorry. The last thing you want is for the band to come in playing thrash metal and forming a mosh pit when you have a very conservative or deeply religious family.

If your budget doesn’t allow for you to hire a band, then go ahead and ask your Uncle Eddie to put on a performance. While you are at it, see what other family members you have with strange and unusual or wonderful and exciting talents. Having your family members showcase their own talents can be a great way to both entertain and bring the family closer together.

Of course, music isn’t the only form of live entertainment you can offer at your family reunion. If you are going to have a large number of young children at the family reunion, you might want to consider hiring a clown to provide some entertainment. If you find one that can make balloon animals, that will certainly put a smile on each child’s face and will provide them with great souvenirs of the reunion (though they likely won’t last too long once in the hands of the young ones!).

Even a puppet show is a great form of live entertainment to provide to the children. You might also want to consider hiring a dance troupe to put on a performance. This could be a particularly nice addition to your family reunion if you can find dancers that perform a certain type of dance that is rooted in your family’s heritage.

Your options are truly endless. So, get your creative juices flowing and think of what type of live entertainment would be best for you and for your family.
