Part 5: Family Reunion Locations: Choosing the Location for Your Family Reunion

Now it is time for you to start searching for a place to host your family reunion. You will need to keep your purpose and number of guests in mind when selecting your venue.

Hopefully, you will have a few extra hands in your family reunion planning process. If not, you should really consider putting together a small committee when choosing the venue. At the very least, you will want to get feedback from some of your family members. That way, you will be more likely to select a place that will make everyone happy. Besides, having some others help you with the decision making will give you someone else to blame if the reunion turns out to be a disaster!

In order to prevent it getting to the point where you are sharing the blame for choosing an outdoor park in Alaska in the middle of winter, there are a few things you should keep in mind when choosing your venue.

The two most important things you should consider is the location of the venue. You could have selected the most beautiful location, but it will do you no good if your family members can’t get to it because transportation in the area is a nightmare.

You also want to be sure there is plenty of lodging nearby. You don’t want to inconvenience your family members by forcing them to drive three hours to the family reunion destination. All that will do is result in cranky relatives that were forced to get up early that day or it will leave you with antsy relatives that are anxious to leave because they have such a long drive ahead of them.

Obviously, you will also want to find a venue that allows your guests plenty of room to move about. Cramming 200 people in a place that is really conducive to just 50 guests is only going to lead to uncomfortable guests that can’t wait until the family reunion is over.

If you will be having your get together in an indoor location, be sure the venue is climate controlled. A room can get overheated even on a nice day once you squeeze all of the bodies into the space. If you will be planning an outdoor family reunion, be sure there is a backup venue that can be used if the weather doesn’t want to cooperate with you on the day of your big event.
